Tools For Peace: Volunteer Spotlight

This semester, Pasadena-based non profit Tools for Peace partnered with Citizen Schools California to teach an apprenticeship at Roots Academy in Oakland. Founded in 2000, Tools for Peace is an organization whose purpose is to strengthen and support emotional intelligence, as well as increase academic success. Their mission is to inspire people of all ages to develop kindness and compassion in everyday life, and that is exactly what this semester allowed them to build with our students in Oakland.

Super-volunteer Anne Bowie recognized by Citizen Schools

Dorchester’s Anne Bowie was recognized for her volunteer work by Citizens Schools at their annual awards event on June 14. Bowie is the public service manager at WilmerHale, a law firm that hosted 14 seventh and eighth graders from the Browne Middle School in Chelsea for apprenticeships. Each student was paired with their own lawyer, who would teach the students the different terms and prepare them for the mock trial they would have at the end of the 10-week program.
