WOW! Season Recap

Citizen Schools Massachusetts concluded the fall semester with three incredible WOW!s showcasing student achievement. 

  • East Somerville Community School enjoyed a “Saturday Morning Cartoons” theme to learn more about game design, finances, and design thinking.

  • Argenziano showcased Google Apprenticeship with lego robots, Maker Challenge involved families in science experiments, and Beautiful Children tapped into artistic skills with stress balls and face-masks.

  • Winter Hill celebrated with an 80’s themed WOW! Featuring superheroes, crime-scene investigators and, dancers.

East Somerville students speak out against rising rents

I live in Somerville and I think affordable housing is important because people and families are losing their homes because rents are raising more than usual. Citizen Schools Hires Kathryn Gabriele as New Campus Director at East Somerville Community School

Citizen Schools, a national nonprofit organization headquartered in Boston, is pleased to announce Kathryn Gabriele has been named the Campus Director at the East Somerville Community School. As Campus Director, she will oversee Citizen Schools out-of-school time programming at East Somerville Community School, where she will work with a team of AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows and school administrative staff to provide hands-on learning experiences, taught in partnership with local volunteers, for students.

Revolution Players Visit East Somerville Community School

They’re helping to start a “Revolution” on the field – and in the classroom. Members of the New England Revolution Major League Soccer team will visit students at the East Somerville Community School, at 50 Cross Street in Somerville on Thursday, May 17 at 5:30 pm. as part of Citizen Schools’ apprenticeship program - which provides students with hands-on, project-based learning experiences that connect what they learn in school to real world career pathways.   Revolution starting Defender Andrew Farrell, along with Marketing Supervisor Matthew Miller and a coach from the New England Revolution Academy, will be on hand, delivering school necessities donated at a recent Revolution home game and playing soccer with the students.

Enrichment added at East Somerville school

Fifth- and sixth-graders at East Somerville Community School have additional learning opportunities, including the chance to serve as apprentices, through a new partnership. The nonprofit Citizen Schools is providing enrichment and academic support to students both in school and during after-school hours to help develop real-world skills and guide them toward college and career success.
