GE volunteers help kids polish interview skills

General Electric volunteers went to Orchard Gardens K-8 School yesterday to conduct mock interviews with eighth-grade students as they prepare for the city’s rigorous high school application process.

Students — dressed to impress in professional clothing — were asked about their goals and the skills they hope to gain in high school.

“I never did an interview before, so this now would help me … My next real interview to get into high school, I would know what to say and like how to act and do the right things,” said Carla Brandao, who hopes to become a fashion designer.

“I found them pretty diverse in terms of their interests,” said GE volunteer Frank Furdyna. “I was very surprised at how well they answered the questions.”
