Celebrating Our Students: May 2019 WOW! Week Recap

At the end of each semester, we look forward to WOW! Week, a celebration of our students’ hard work from their apprenticeships. During this celebration, communities of family, friends, and volunteers gathered to view our students’ talents and skills through interactive presentations. Each of our four New York campuses held themed showcases to celebrate these accomplishments.

Renaissance School of the Arts’ Second Annual WOWWY’s

Inspired by high profile award shows, RSA’s WOW! was a night full of glitz and glamor! The night kicked off with group dance performances and an award ceremony. Following the show, guests had the chance to learn more about teeth impressions and concussions from our students, while listening to music supplied by a student led band.

Isaac Newton Middle Schools’ WOW!-der the Sea

INMS guests were transported to the world inspired by The Little Mermaid as students showed their coding skills, read their Writing Academy pieces, and tested their family and friends’ knowledge on healthy food choices. Staff in full costume and make-up added an additional festive element.

Urban Assembly Unison’s International Carna-WOW!

UAU guests were invited to a colorful celebration of youth, global culture and community! Students astounded everyone with their Lego Robotics missions and Spoken Word performances.

P.S./I.S. 157’s WOW! On the Go

The halls of P.S./I.S. 157 were transformed into an urban jungle with city skyscrapers and subway station signs. In their New York City-themed WOW!, students shined with their Shakespearean performance, one-of-a-kind business pitches, and Coding Academy websites.

Each student presentation represented the Citizen Schools values of Joy and Pride. Thank you to all of our Citizen Teachers who gave their time and talent to teaching our students!

Volunteer opportunities are currently open for the fall semester, which starts September 30th. To learn more about volunteering with Citizen Schools New York, please email Tricia Myers, Civic Engagement Coordinator.
